This free crochet pattern for a potholder with a pocket is a modern design that works up quickly, and the pocket makes it unique and easy to use. This is also a perfect project for beginners since gauge does not matter and it uses a large hook.
I was inspired by the look of The Croix coaster by Debrosse, using slip stitches in the back loop only that mimics knitting and using a chunky yarn to make the potholder nice and thick.
I like to keep mine on top of my toaster oven for quick access after heating up leftovers or making cheesy toast. This potholder even looks chic enough to be left out all the time without looking tacky!

Line the front up with the back and slip stitch around the entire perimeter of the square. On the portion of the back that does not have a matching front, slip stitch only in the back.
Slip stitch along the remaining curved edge of the front, trying your best to make the stitches even when jumping rows.
