String and beads are definitely on trend right now – and it’s easy to make your own handmade string and bead ornaments! They have that air of Scandinavian or Mid-Century modern to them and would fit right in with many modern decor styles. Lucky for us, they’re also easy and cheap to make! I’ve rounded up a bunch of fun ideas using string and beads so you can whip up some modern ornaments as gifts or as fun additions to your own holiday decor!
I love the look of these ornaments! So simple, but the string around the beads really adds some creative interest. My guess is that you’d want to hide a small dab of glue in between the beads to hold the strings perfectly spaced, though.
These little tassels are so easy, but also so chic! In addition to ornaments, wouldn’t they look cute dangling from cupboard handles, as napkin rings, or as a package topper, or as wine bottle “wrapping”? So many possibilities!
These stars are simple and great additions to a tree – and I bet you could do this project with kids if you let them to the job of stringing the beads.
I actually did make these as gifts for family members a few years ago, and they were so easy to make and looked much more complicated than they actually were! I recommend a little bit of glue to hold the pins into the cardboard, though, because they’ve had a tendency to work their way out over the years.
These are another super easy, albeit messy string craft for Christmas by using glue to hold the string’s shape. I’m sure a kid would love to participate in this one!
Another super simple, but super elegant handmade string and bead ornament idea. The ring really elevates it. This would look great as a “set” with some of the other ideas here that utilize wooden beads!
Another similar, but more cozy take on the beaded ornament is to use felt balls as the “beads”! I think these would look right at home on a tree with some woodland creatures, or on a tree in a kids room!
How about using cinnamon sticks as “beads”?! I love the geometric shape Jojotastic thought to create here, and I bet these smell divine!
Ok this one cheats the theme a little bit and requires some paint, but how elegant are these? The tassels at the bottom also take them up a notch.
These are another super simple handmade string and beads ornament idea but would look great in a tree with other wooden ornaments, or as a gift topper.
These tassels are very similar to the first idea I showed, but don’t this feel much more boho or farmhouse? I love the dip-dyed idea to really make them stand out.
Wow – how amazing would this look as a tree topper or in a window? The geometry is really stunning.
